Easter Egg

   Well, once we got one egg, more were soon to follow. I have been getting eggs all this week. One day we got four eggs!

I don't know why the last egg looks white... It is really is about the color of the egg next to it.

   But then, yesterday we got something extra special!

   Piper laid her first egg! She is an Easter Egger, which means, you guessed it, she lays colored eggs!

Piper's egg just happens to be this lovely blue. Other Easter Eggers can lay green eggs.

   Now if you were wondering, the eggs are completely safe to eat. There is nothing that makes them different from a regular egg. Except the color of course!

   Also, each chicken only lays one color. So we will always get these blue eggs from Piper. I am definitely not complaining though! What a cool color!

It is a perfect funny little egg from my perfect funny chicken.

Add Insult to Injury

   I saw this the last time I was out with the chickens. This is just another example of Piper's...   stupidity? That sounds so mean... Let's just say confused curiosity.

This is when Piper notices the bucket. 

Note that Raven is in this picture but not the next. She realized in that time that buckets are not interesting.

Piper has a very different opinion. 

She looks closely at the bottom of the bucket.

Then she looks at the top of the bucket.

The inside of the bucket is next.

Then the bottom of the bucket... again...

And the top again... In case it changed? I guess you never know...

What a sweet, silly chicken!

All That Glitters

   Unless you have chickens, you might not know that their personalities are all different. Now that my girls are getting older, I can really see their personalities taking shape. Some are still a mystery, but most are becoming clear.

   One chicken with a very distinct personality is Piper.

   She is a bit strange. Both in looks and how she acts. She is an Easter Egger so she has big puffy cheeks instead of wattles.

This makes me laugh every day!

   She is also very... curious. Overly curious. Way overly curious. She loves to peck clothing. Most chickens peck at tags or zippers a few times, then lose interest. 

   Piper does something very different. She picks a random spot on my shirt. Nowhere with writing. Nowhere with a seam. Just a spot. Then she scrapes it with her beak. Over and over. At least 6 or seven times. 

She never understands jeans. No matter how many times I wear them, she just doesn't get them. 

   Maybe its just just her cheeks that makes her look crazy. Maybe she was bred for beauty and not brains. Either way she is a incredibly sweet if weird chicken that I must admit I love!

Arrival

   The chicks are here! We got the call at 10:10 am on Tuesday. (I was very impressed by this because they hatched on Monday and had to come from Ohio to New Hampshire.) We ran over to the post office as soon as we could and picked them up at 10:30.

    One of my big worries was one of the chicks would die on the trip. However I am happy to say this did not happen and they all arrived safely!
